W. J. Caroll Intermediate School 4th Graders
On December 14, 2010, W. J. Carroll Intermediate School fourth graders showed their Carroll character of kindness, generosity, and compassion as they became “Santa Helpers” at the Daphne Animal Shelter. Students gathered close to 200 items to donate to the shelter including dog and cat food, cat litter, and treats.  Kudos to  Mrs. Kelly Agee for  coordinating the donation drive and field trip to the shelter. A special heartfelt thanks goes out to all of Santa Helper’s for their contributions to homeless animals at the shelter this year!

“The Greatest Love”. I believe children are our future, teach them well and let them show the way!

Anna Claire Nolfe Red Ribbon Leadership Winner!
Anna Claire Nolfe was selected to develop and implement a community based project as part of Daphne Elementary School’s Red Ribbon Week. As the recipient of the Red Ribbon Leadership Award, Anna Claire created Pennies for Pets, a Program which raised $380 in donations for the Daphne Animal Shelter.  Anna collected change for three Fridays at Daphne Elementary.  She also collected donations at the following Daphne Businesses: Fast Times, Wilson’s  in Spanish Fort, Chevron and Lake Forest Animal Clinic.  The Blue Marlin restaurant in Fairhope also supported Pennies for Pets.

Animal Control Officer, Rhonda Jones and Administration Technician, Amelia Alawaine spoke with Anna Claire about the animals at Daphne Animal Shelter when her family adopted a retired greyhound in May.  She learned that the shelter is full of animals who require care until they find their “furever” homes.  She knew she wanted to help homeless pets.  Daphne Elementary School’s Red Ribbon Week participation gave Anna Claire the platform and support to follow through with her goal to help homeless animals.  Red Ribbon Week is a community based project aimed at encouraging young people to live a drug-free life. After collecting donations, Anna Claire and a school friend, McKenzie Hunn, delivered a check and food donations to the animal shelter.

Thank you Anna Claire on behalf of the homeless animals at the shelter and congratulations on your award. A special thanks to all the businesses and individuals that supported Anna Claire’s Pennies for Pets.  Because of you, the spirit of Red Ribbon Week continues successfully in the Daphne and Fairhope communities.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s website states that: “Red Ribbon Week is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October every year. By wearing red ribbons and participating in community anti-drug events, young people pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena”.
